nice size dish woo hoo! I picked one up that oval shaped 22 x 34 inches I see thats bigger.
How well did the smaller dish work for you?
actually, I covered the 22 x 34 with the mirror on a roll but havent used it yet. the large one in the video like I state the additions on it are a little off perfect focus and need adjustment. the dish size before extensions was 20×22. that worked with a 4 inch square pan to cook a single hamburer in or a single egg did that for fun lol.
Yes, a little larger dish will allow you to cook larger meals. What did you make your extensions out of?
plexiglas, molded to form the shape of the original dish. A round piece is cut that is 20×22, laid on top of the dish and placed in the oven at 250f. watch it closely so it doenst overheat and warp and the plexiglas will sink down into the dish and the remove from the oven, let cool, remove from dish, then cut into sections and bracketed onto the original dish to follow the contour of it. works,
fresnel lenses and solar ovens are neat to cook with also. look at my channel.
Okay.
Very cool, I mean HOT! Next is a few burgers and the beach!
Thanks! Right on!
That’s a great video! Thanks for sharing it.
We’re in the process of putting something like this together. How long did it take to cook the popcorn?
Thanks! Fifteen minutes to cook popcorn.
Very cool work you’ve done!!!

Hey! Thank you! I enjoyed your solar cooking video!
wouldnt it be easier to use a solar-power microwave?
I think that would be like comparing a camp stove to a conventional oven. You can build this for less than fifty dollars, it only weighs a few pounds, and it folds up.
A solar microwave would be nice too, but would be heavier, more expensive, and more complex, with battery, charge controller, panel(s), etc.
They’re both great options for using solar, but it depends on your needs.
Thanks for your comment!
Awesome!
I admit, I had reservations about it working, but you proved to me otherwise!
Where did you get the solar disc?
The dish is a satellite dish tossed out by the road. Check out the plans for complete info.
Thanks, it’s a great grill!
nice grill!!! im making a solar oven for a 6th grade science project next yoear i probably will compare my oven to a parabolic cooker but still maybe ill use this design looks like it works great and would be useful for other things than the project like making bacon for a snack especially in the high desert!!!
Thank you for commenting. I spent a lot of time on these plans. It really shows in the performance. Similar grills can cost from $200 to over $600 new.
I want to offer a complete awesome solar cooker for under a hundred dollars but I still can’t. But I can offer my design and all of my hard learned lessons for only $10.
Every time someone buys the plans and book, I am encouraged to spread the word about solar, and I’m a little closer to offering a complete grill that people can afford.
